Santa’s Snobs.

Let me tell you how sick I am of hearing about Holiday Weight Gain..you know why you gain weight, because you look forward to eating in the holidays. What happened to those childhood wishes, the magic of Christmas that fills your hearts and not your tummies.

When have you heard kids in the school yard saying, omg I’m so excited for the holiday turkey I hear the stuffing is going to be divine.

Kids don’t look forward to food; instead they want to toboggan and open gifts. I say stop baking cookies for “santa” and feeding yourselves. Instead, bring the childhood magic alive, get out and play.

How to end a Conversation.

Simple, say Goodbye or Talk to you later, but don’t just cut off. OK so u did say bye, but hold on a sec for Joe to answer. I’ll tell you, the older you are the faster you hang up the phone. It’s like once there is a pause in the conversation, well that’s the queue to hang-up. Next thing you know I’m talking uber fast, but ladies and gentlemen, do you remember rule/lesson #1, Stop Talking Fast?

Now see, the conversation just ends awkwardly. Believe me when I say that even if you are having an amazing conversation a convo minus a goodbye equals disaster (convo – goodbye = disaster).

Is it me or does every single Pink song sound the same. It may seem weird, but I feel that artists should grow and change as people through their career. I’m not saying that they should adopt totally different music styles to entertain us – put something new must happen in their lives.

Are you telling me that pink hasn’t experienced anything new for the past five years. Are you telling me that she has been in a continuum where she constantly falls in parties like a bad girl, then ditzy falls into teenage love, gets treated badly, and then has an empowering/emancipating moment.

Some may argue that its similar to modern hip-hop and why not comment about that. True, but atleast the cars they speak about change with the times. Atleast I know they didn’t record their whole music career in the span of one day.

I’m not even sure her songs use any new words. Frankly, I think someone should checkup on her. Perhaps she is suffering something similar to “10 second tom” in the movie 50 first dates.

Amsih.

I never understood it until I became an adult. How unnecessary technology can be sometimes. I mean I love my phone for example, but that’s it, I don’t have data or any apps. I don’t experience the “suckface” as I would like to call it, like the majority of the population. Secondly, I don’t care much to use technology for the purpose of retaining memory. I still like the old fashion paper and pen and or the master of all, my brain.

Alzheimer’s has increased and well I blame that on the GPS.

Okay, GPS can’t take all the credit for Alzheimer’s. But I know if I need to get somewhere I friggin look at a map. Slowly but surely I’ve finally understood my whereabouts in the foreign land I call home. I bet 60% of us “citizens” panic when they’re at a crossroads that the GPS could not recognize.

Take that technology. I don’t rely on you because I’m in control.

So, does that make me a little Amish? I don’t think so.

Back on the topic of stories. I really don’t want to get too much into the stories people tell, because I feel that its a pretty mundane topic. But, there is one story that annoys me almost everytime I hear it.

The back home story is one where the teller states how difficult/better/complex their experience was in their original place or origin. In university, I often hear this story from people that come from other countries or transferred from another school.

What upsets me most about this story, is that people often tell me is when they are fucking up. If you learned conics in elementary school Japan please tell me why you haven’t memorized the quadratic equation. If you learned exergy calculations at your first year of Harvard then tell me why your fucking up now.

Give me a break and go back to your special place.

Who is the mystery guy?

While sitting in the library, I overheard a story that I’ve heard many times before. I then began to realize that most people probably hear this same story.

First you need to be part of a large group of people, such as a university, church or large company. Next you need a fantastical story involving an amazing feat of excellence or disaster. The third thing you need is a mystery person nobody has ever heard of or seen.

Why do we always find ourselves listening and believing such stories that we clearly know are rumours. Have you ever tried to gain more information? I did and all that you get are awkward sounds and random excuses.

Employment advice to my fellow generation Y’s – start doing you. The baby boomers have been the most dominant generation. With said dominance, society has catered their every whim. They needed family transportation – minivans became prevalent. They needed to finance their retirements – RRSP’s became prevalent.

As children of the largest generation, we have had things easy because our interests have been the interests of the baby boomers. This unfortunately is no longer the case. As the boomers age, their incomes decrease and they begin to look for ways to settle in for the rest of their lives. That means that greater burdens will be placed upon our future societies to support these individuals that are contributing less.

In short, the future can seem very uncertain or limited. Don’t wait for that promised job occupied by the boomer. Don’t put off your personal goals to gain a lower salary in the present. Taxes will be higher and government services will decrease. The once lucrative monetary rewards of a dead end job will be less lucrative in the future as your income diminishes with excess tax to support the boomers.

Get out there. Enjoy today and leave nothing for tomorrow. Because you never know if you’ll be able to afford it by then.

Heard on the radio today that a new computer program can allow employers to monitor employee behaviour. The program would allow employers to see if you’re at the desk by secretly connecting to your webcam, monitor websites visited, and count the amount of keystrokes your making.

Programs for monitoring employee productivity/internet usage have already been around – but I don’t know about anything this invasive. The reality is that as one employer begins using this technology and sees results, others will begin to follow suit.

The sad reality is that when you go to work you are their object of productivity – nothing more nothing less. If you want to be paid you must play by the employers’ rules. There is something fantastical about entrepreneurship – the independence, self-reliance, and strength.

If your dynamic enough and perhaps a little bit lucky – I would suggest working for youself. At least that way you can watch and not be watched.

Some of us are Professionals, Some of us are still students and some of us just Google.

I hate Googlers. Hear me out for a second. A Googler is someone who researches something they aren’t sure about, then once they find the answer they weigh out how many “Doctors”, “Professionals”, and comments were made similar to your request. Does that mean you’re the Professional now? Oh, You understand how to change the brakes on the car thanks to the detailed phrasing of Jack Russel, he sounds like a trustable guy.

This isn’t what bothers me. I’m proud to say we can research anything we want and get all kinds of great and helpful advice. But, don’t go in to your doctor’s office prescribing what you need, because you know Google said so. Basically what you’re saying is if I could printout an online prescription, I would and if I could print out my degree I would.

Lesson#1: If you are told one thing you are bound to get the other.

Okay I hear you, I’ll explain. –A and I have learnt this lesson early on, we’ve learnt that every time someone says, oh we are not about this, we don’t do this kind of thing, and we never expect these actions, your project/order will be delivered on this day, oh and the grand finale, we are going to get back to you, ALL these things mean, please know that this is what we do exactly, this is how we act exactly, we’ll never get the project on this day (that’s really when we plan to start it) and please understand we have no intention of getting back to you, but maybe when we feel like it.

I’m rambling, but that’s how the human mind works. We tell people what we want them to hear and try to convince our personas that these are the actions we should be following. But there’s a little man in all our head laughing and saying “ you’re not going to call, you’re not going to do it” and the other little woman saying “ you should be calling, by then you’ll be a better individual and keep your promises”

Blah, blah, blah.

Why take food pictures?

I might understand taking a SINGLE picture of a unique meal you made, or an elaborately decorated wedding meal (although I wouldn’t do it personally) or even the aftermath of a meal that made you terribly sick.

Has our society become so boastful that people have to compete on what we devour. Even if that were the case, this isn’t the 1830’s. People don’t consider fruit preservatives a luxury. And no, a picture of mashed potatoes and rice isn’t considered decadence.

Most of us in North America are fortunate enough to be able to try almost anything we wish. Even if that weren’t the case, why would make the effort to point that out to those that are less fortunate.

Why do people feel the need to buy SLR cameras? I have nothing against photographers, cameramen, or any artistic person. But the fact is, majority of people that purchase SLR cameras shouldn’t have them.

If we go to a party and it takes you 20 minutes to take a picture – you probably shouldn’t have it. Amateur photographers merely makes a fun spontaneous event seem scripted and contrite.

In reality, most SLR people don’t have the camera for pictures – but for accessory purposes. The SLR has become the modern yuppie baby.

It’s expensive so you can’t leave it alone at parties. It’s delicate so you must carefully wrap and conceal extra components. And there enough of you out there to strike up pointless party conversations such as, “Will digital ever beat film?”- Which always ends in “No, digital will never compare.”

In the end, the average partygoer sees you as a photo commodity – not a person of skill or knowledge.

But what do I know, I reblog your pictures that I find on tumblr..

I don’t mean to be mean, but who allowed the guy in with the SLR?

I understand that amateur photographers need practice and every person should have a hobby. But there is no need to practice your skills during a crowded get together at my cramped apartment. A simple point and shoot would be sufficient enough.

It isn’t as if these people are voluntary event photographers, if there were the case I might be more receptive to them. Have you ever tried to get pictures from an SLR person? They always seem too busy, or need 7 months to click auto adjust on Photoshop – because they are “perfectionists”.

Next time you have a party, do yourself a favour and buy a disposable.

The Black Eyed Peas have spent the past 3 years making the most annoying hit singles on the radio. What I mean by this is, you listen to them once and hate them. But through constant repetition their songs magically ring in your head.

Now, I will leave it up to the music junkies to argue about why this happens. Some junkies will decry the prevalence of the music industry and problems with mainstream radio – to these topics I give no care.

Instead, I want to bring something more important to your attention. There are only 2 members of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.AM and Fergie. Infact, I believe that majority of the technical song part is made by Will.I.AM and Fergie is merely there to sell records. We can’t short change Fergie, because sex sells and she is definitely a contributor to that and their success.

My question is, What do the other 2 Peas do? Are they robots, are they backup dances, are they stunt doubles. Because it seems to me that in majority of BEP radio hits, these other two blokes only have 1 or 2 lines combined.

Staying on the topic of music, I began listening to CBC Radio 2 in my car. The station has an eclectic mix of classical and jazz music from time to time.

They say that baroque music with 50-80 beats per minute can be brain boosting. Being a man of performance, I decided to make listening a commuter drive habit – just to get my juices flowing before lecture.

What can I tell you about the results? In a simplistic definition, classical music makes me hyper. Never have I had so much road rage on the way to school. Don’t believe me? Listen to Vivaldi – Four Seasons as other drivers dart in and out of traffic. It makes you want to battle them from getting into your lane.

Reality is, the classical refined music of today is merely the thuggish melody of the past.

It seems to me that music takes precedence over our generation. You can disrespect other people’s race, religion, or political view but never musical affiliation. Make jokes about the former topics and it is deemed “comedic”, but making jokes about musical taste is simply “closed minded”.

Music is not the end-all be all indicator of personal ideology. There are far more direct, all encompassing, and vocal ways of stating personal ideology. Disliking a genre of music doesn’t mean you cannot relate with someone.

In fact, music is the one avenue where I show a clear bias in ideas. No I will not give your garbage a try, because it serves no purpose to me. I am listening for the moment and nothing more. There is no hidden meanings, or higher understandings.

So lighten up. Go out there and get some true convictions.

Recently, M’s blackberry began falling in and out of consciousness. I refer to the object as a person, because it seems that cell phones have become an indispensable tool.

Luckily for her, she was able to purchase a replacement battery for roughly $30CDN.
The whole ordeal got me thing, what is technology worth?

If she had an iphone, a completely new device might have been necessary. Otherwise, she would have to opt for a $80 CDN replacement surgery. Of course, there would always be the discount option of pacific mall – but I try to avoid that seedy cellular underworld.

My point is that today’s technology is manufactured overseas for the most part. The steep premiums we pay for devices is mostly a function of brand recognition and device capability. In fact, the only tangible asset of most North American operations is product R&D – and that’s beginning to be challenged.

Never settle for inferior design, it’s the only thing left that’s worth paying for.

Heard yesterday that Toronto Police busted a huge shipment of counterfeit TTC tokens. Apparently the shipment was coming from China. I want to try and avoid the debate and controversy that arises from discussing public transit in Toronto. But let me make this observation: criminals rarely act for the sake of it.

What I mean by this is that there has to be significant benefits for committing illegal activity – including counterfeiting TTC tokens. Perhaps one might also infer that the prevalence of such counterfeiting is reflective of an imbalance/inequality to cost vs. service provided.

Regardless of how much speculation one wants to make, a transit system serving a population of this size should probably have begun migrating towards a electronic system already. Its estimated that 2,000 fake tokens are used everyday at the time I’m posting this blog. Sounds like a logistics nightmare.

Last but not least, isn’t anyone concerned that Ontario manufacturing can’t even compete with China to create counterfeit tokens?
